I earned a 2-year degree in Physical Therapy in 1982 with continuing education required for the last 37 years
I completed a certification in Massage and Bodywork in 1993
I studied and utilized Neuro-Muscular Therapy, Strain Counter Strain, Myofascial Release, Lymphatic Drainage, and NDT taught by Lois Bly, PT. I studied with Sharon Weiselfish, PT Muscle Energy Technique, and Neural Tissue Tension Assessment and treatment among other modalities. This was in the mechanistic model of “fixing the body” I then evolved………………….
Visionary Cranio-Sacral Therapy, I came to the conclusion on my own that the bones were sacred, that the soft tissue held the “story” while the bones felt pure and filled with essence. I studied the first three courses with Hugh Milne, a third generation Scottish osteopath who speaks of the bones as sacred.
For 20 years, I studied all courses in preparation to become certified in Integrative Breathwork but stopped short of certification when I realized that the embodiment piece was missing and is the yin to the yang of breath. I knew that, even though breathwork was powerful and connected me to a higher power, I walked out in the same body I walked in with. I intuitively knew that there were patterns of tension in the body which related to the problems I was breathing into which were not being addressed.
I then studied and became certified in the Feldenkrais Method of Somatic Education in 2001 which showed me how to navigate those patterns of tension with a magical release. Organic healing feels magical to me. The connections made at the level of the body through exploration instead of mimicking another is how nature intended us to live and learn. A wholeness with life itself restores our ability to drop tension and feel connected again.
Last year I became certified in Kathy Kaine’s Skilled touch for re-regulation of the Autonomic Nervous System which was the missing piece in my efforts to treat children who were dysregulated due to brain injury. I have found a natural way to balance my nervous system from high arousal anxiety into a more regulated embodied parasympathetic rest and digest healing mode. This is a slow walk but so worthwhile.
Although I have all these tools and more in my toolbox, I now utilize mostly CST, The Feldenkrais Method and skilled touch for re-regulation as I find these methods to be most successful for myself and my clients.
